I have a whirring noise comming from my stick shift (WRX 5speed basically stock)

It seems to be around no matter what gear I am in... it "whirrrs" in neutral too, but is mostly noticable when in gear.

62,000 miles, just got back form it 60,000 mile service.

Does anybody have any ideas what this could be?

I get a whirring noise when Im in gear and let off and coast, but thats completely normal. I have never heard of a noise like that when even in nuetral. Can you be more specific of when it occurs or what it sounds like???

 

I think i might have the same problem. I got 68k miles. When i neutral it at about 63mph and just roll i hear a whinning down noise till about 48mph. But when im in gear and accelerating from 48mph to 63mph it sounds normal. But when i left off the gas... there it is again. Not really sure wut it could be.

 

double check your gear oil level. the noise wasn't there before the service?

 

gear oil is full and clear. (they must have changed it during the service)

I am pretty sure the noice started after or a little after I took it in for service.
