when is the electric fan supposed to run?

Ever since i have had the car........... i dont think i have ever heard the fan run after turning the car off while the engine is hot........... but if i put the key in and turn it to the 2nd position without starting the car the fan will turn off back on......... and turn the key to off the fan goes off............ arent these electric fans supposed to run all the time till its cooled off and not just when the key is turned............ is this normal??

no. The fans will run when the car is on electrically and when the temp is above 200F.

what he said, they will not run when the key is not in the "on" position.

i would imagine if the fan is on with the key in the start position and you turn it to the off position and the fan goes off, then back to the start position the fan goes on, this cannot be correct right............ i was just wondering if everyone elses cars do this or not........... i dont want to be frying my motor if this should be corrected and im neglecting it

I don't think there is a need to take it to the dealer. Just be plain happy it's runnin', then you know your engine will be cooled down. I'd be worried if I never heard it...
