keep your stock intake, do the silencer box mod on it, get a good replacement drop in filter, and save your money for another mod that you will get good gains from.
intakes on WRXs do nothing. The most gains you will see is just from doing the mod and using a good filter in the stock airbox.

if you must...
i have the injen CAI; no CEL and no rough idle, start, or stalls.
i can't vouch for it's performance improvement, i've never had mine on a dyno.
buuuttt... it does yield some nice audio waves. you can clearly hear the rush of air as the snail spools up; and better than that, you can hear the bypass valve routing air back into the intake track from the I/C. my buddy has the GFB 50/50 hybrid, and my intake sounds louder and better than his BOV
i think the only concern will be if i am leaning out too much, but the injen has the same diameter piping as stock, and a nice long straight section on both sides of the MAF; so i don't think it is affecting the A/F ratios too much. i got mine for 180 bucks, and it was like killing two birds with one stone: i got a sweet CAI, and i have the nice BOV sound, without a BOV. i haven't had any problems with mine and highly recommend it
btw, i'm also running the AVC-R set at 1.05 that, on the other hand, did yield a noticable difference...

until you are making over 300HP(crank) minimum, the stock airbox(w/snorkus removed) is NOT a restriction.
If you MUST have the bling, Perring and TurboXS short rams are the only two that DEFINATELY wont mess things up.
CAIs are touch and go, some have tourble some dont.
Keep in mind, many tuners will refuse to dyno tune your car with a CAI on it. There is a reason for it.

Yeah, stock airbox but I hacked the silencer on the lower belly or round part on the bottom towards the front so when you remove the fog cover, you have a scoop for a "ram air'" effect.
