Warranty questions and intake silencer removal
I have a question for everyone. I heard that if you remove the air intake silencer that it is essencially the same thing as buying the $200 short ram intake. I have 2 questions with this. #1 has anyone done this and if so does it sound good? I relize it wont give much power but either will the short ram all on its own. #2 Will it void my warrany. I bought $3k worth the warranties and I dont want to void them cuz I want my car to sound good.
One other part. I know there are people here that work for Subaru Steal-erships. If i buy my parts for subaru i.e. SPT intake, heatshield, SPT exhaust, Can i install them myself? or does the dealership have to do it for it not to void my warranty. Also please verify that i can do that while on warranty. A service manager said I could as long as they were Subaru authorized parts. Thank you very much for taking the time to read and answer this.

Dunno about warranty...
I'm a complete auto noobasaurous and I did it in around 30 minutes. Didn't remove the tire so it was tricky pulling the silencer out and sticking the snorkus in. But very doable. There's an illustrated guide in this forum or "scoobymods.com" or something. Very informative - I don't think I could have done it without the guide.
I didn't notice any change whatsoever regarding sound or performance. If so it may be a placebo effect...

Just get the spt intake...It is made by Subaru and does not mess with you cars warranty, also sounds great and can add some small whp....but if you get that then you would need a tune of some kind, like a Cobb AP. if you ever have to take your car in for warranty work just flash your car back to stock and you will be good to go.

If your worried about warranty work especially just because of the intake area. I would remove the snorkel and just leave the ram scoop there. Hopefully they don't pay attention to that part. And yes it will work the same way as an aftermarket intake.

From what I was told that the only mods you can
do at some strict Subaru service departments is a CAI and catback exhaust.
I know that the K/N FIPK CAI or SPT CAI you could probably get away
with. The SPT heat shield would be a great mod to do also.
