want that awesome turbo motor but can't afford the EJ207?
It's becoming harder to find blocks/heads/shortblocks/longblocks right? Or, hard to find at a decent price anyway. If you do manage to grab a JDM, then you have to either convert your car over to work or if it was a turbo motor anyhow, drop it in. Or go out and buy a block someone has snatched up and knows they can charge $$$ for or buy one from the dealer. either way, you're looking at anywhere from $1000 to $3000 depending on where you get it and what options it has.
Well, here's some math I did to figure on a GREAT engine concept.
By using EJ22 heads (ported and polished to eliminate bad flow, good cams too) and the EJ22 block, you have a good starting ground for a lower (than stock) compression motor capable of handling LOTTTTSSS of boost. want to know how?
Common theory says that thicker cylinder walls produces more capability in handling compression or forced induction. So, swap your pistons down to another displacement, keep the heads, change the crank.
By using the stock EJ18E/EJ20E/Ej22E 130.5mm rod length, EJ25 crank at 79mm stroke, EJ18 pistons with 88mm bore, and EJ22 heads with 58.315cc chambers (per cylinder, including gasket thickness) you get a whopping 1920cc, 9.1:1 compression ratio engine. By using a bigger sleeve to accomidate the lost space for the drop from 97.5 to 88mm bore piston, you accomidate adding 4.75mm to the thickness of your wall! And that makes the EJ22 cylinder wall more than 14mm with those pistons!
Who thinks this is worth the time? I'm coming upon all the blocks/heads/parts needed for less than $100.
the other choice is to keep the stock crank (which is 75mm stroke) and use the EJ18 pistons, bigger sleeves, and EJ22 heads. You'd have a 1820cc engine with 7.80:1 CR! Remeniscent of the EA82T days. (7.7:1)
