vf34 turbo upgrade legit?

Hey guys, im looking to make some power in the wagon, let it sit stock far too long. I want to do this setup..

VF34

larger-than-stock TMIC (possibly sti)

STi injectors

hi-flo catted TBE

fuel pump

................................

what do you guys think? Ive seen people hitting pretty descent #'s whith this while having a reliable daily driver, that is what im going for. what kind of power gains have you guys seen with this setup or similar? would this be a logical upgrade or should I be thinking about larger injectors? I want to keep it catted because Ive already had to deal with a state-ref, that was not worth it. would I be able to install this and drive to get tuned or will i run risk of destroying my stock internals? could i run cobb ap v2? i was thinking pro-tuned would get larger power increases and more for what I want. thanks.

For a Vf-34 on a 2.0 you will need at least 565cc
check out my thread on my vf-34catted setup it has my mod list as well

I just did what your thinking about doing..

Only it was a VF-43 (VF-34 with a bigger waste gate.)
565 deatshwerks injectors
Walbro 255 fuel Pump
CSS intercooler--Also had a Turbo XS intercooler.. (ended up putting in the CSS top mount.(long story)

Ended up with about 260 ish at the wheels. IIRC.. It's enough to put a big *** grin on my face when I hit the gas!! But it's also very drivable.. Though a bit loud due to my Helix TB..

Had Paul (DB-tuned) do my tune...

If you're anywhere near him I would highly recommend going there.. For the tune as well as the floor show!!

You can run it without EM until u get it tuned, but just don't go into boost at all. If u can do that, u will be ok.

Had 241 at the wheels with mine (keep in mind that this was on the infamous "Heart Breaker" Dyno)

My setup was:
02 Wagon, VF-34, 565cc STi injectors, ECU Tune, Catted downpipe, HKS intake, Apexi GT Spec exhaust.

Tune by Mike from GST (back when he was at Gruppe-S).
Held it's own well, lacked some tourque compared to near stock STi's but they couldn't shake me

As far as a tune go, make getting a tune part of the install (doesn't have to be at the same place). But don't think "ok, the install is done, now I'll save up for a tune." Think of it all as the same.

Once you find a tuner you want to use, if you aren't having the parts installed at their shop (if they are located at an install shop) they can set you up with a safety map that'll get you to them so they can do the real tuning. Yes you can use the Cobb AP v2. Where are you located?

just curious but what were your torque numbers? Plus what brand gas (i.e Shell, 76, Chevron, etc) do u use?

used 76, torque was 220 I believe. out to sea right now and don't have access to the old dyno sheet.

Edit: Found it:
Dyno Sheet 1
Dyno Sheet 2

does anyone have this setup that I could possibly get a ride in or drive to see if I want to go for more power? Please pm!!! I'd really like to see what this can do for me before I get too deep in parts. Thanks.

Are you going to install a new vf34? It is a lot more expensive compared to vf39, 43, and 48 - since vf34 is ball bearing turbo. I'm sure it offers slighly quicker spool, but if you wisely pick & choose right parts and a right tuner, you will not see too much difference. I went with a new vf43 for 600 shipped.

Where is FC? If you are around bay area I could give a ride.
