VF34 on stock ECU/Hybrid Boost Control
I'm sure there are other people out there who have tried running a VF34 on an otherwise stock car, or people who want to run one. What happens under stock boost control is very bad for the car, boost spikes and drops between 20 and 10 psi very rapidly as the computer tries to figure out what's going on. This will not go away, the computer won't adjust for it. The easiest solution is to run a Bleeder Valve MBC, I prefer the Oakos valve, in place of the stock boost solenoid. This lets you set your boost level nice and safe, and it's pretty steady. I ran like this for about 2 months. I observed that the computer will pull timing back at certain times, depending on rpm, temperature, etc... That also kinda sucks, it's pretty inconsistent. I had the idea of running the MBC AND the factory boost solenoid. I hooked up the MBC inline with the factory solenoid, in place of the inline restrictor. This dampens the rapid boost increase enough to let the computer deal with it. My car will hit just under 15psi at full boost, taper off to 10 at high rpm's, just like a stock WRX, just more powerful . I really like the idea of the ECU having control of boost while i'm waiting to get proper engine management. The feeling of the timing being pulled back is pretty much gone now that things working like they were designed to be.
Any thoughts on this?
