Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

VF34 Question::

Hello just had a question about the vf34 setup.. I recently purchased the vf34 package ( turbo fuel pump and injectors ) along with a TMIC.. I used to have a DP and 3inch exhaust , but i went back to stock.. I plan on getting an UP, DP, 3" catback... My question was, are there any other parts that I can get to make this set-up more reliable? or even to make the set up run better.. Problem is that my budget will be very limited... Any thoughts would be appreciated , Thanks!

P.S: Also, if i were to get an EWG, will I need a tune for it? I've heard that IWG is enough for a IHI series turbo and EWG is not necessary (IWG is more than enough and so on) Thanks for any imput

I have a vf 34 set up.... I think the stock iwg is not that good. it would benefit from a ewg(i'm planning to do this) and you will need to tune for it
I would do a turbo inlet, sti scoop and splitter, and 3 port boost control solenoid/or mbc (depending on tuner)

I have a vf34 setup on my 02 Wrx. I bought the car from some guy and he had it tuned at gruppe-s. I was making really good power and it pulled hard. I think I was boosting 18 point something. But then my ecu fried. Idk how just burned. Crazy ****. But I didn't have a sti topmount. That makes a big differance.

kloo413- that ebay TMIC, what do shops say about those, are they reliable? I haven't talked to anyone that has bought one before so I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question..

Ed from EQTuning. Road dyno. Very similar to mustang dyno. Stock stis put down around 215-220. This is at 18lbs.

eBay tmic will get the job done, but it is by no means a high quality product. I wonder if I got an APS or spearco topmount...would I see more gains.

Just had a noobish question... Just wondering if the tuners can tune the car using the V1 accessport that I have? Or is that a bit outdated? I tried to find some OTS maps but I dont have the USB connector thing to upload maps into the Accessport.. Only stage 1 and stage 2 valet mode etc etc... Thanks for your help

I believe you need the USB connector in order for the tuner to physically add a map to your Accessport due to the fact that they would have to plug it into a PC of some sort to transfer the file. its a pretty inexpensive cable if you want to order a replacement.

The V1 Accessport can't do custom tunes, it supports off-the-shelf maps only in my experience.

No offense intended, but that dyno chart is highly suspicious. 293 whp with a 2.0 liter and VF43 on 91 octane w/ a TMIC? I've seen many a chart from 2.5-liter motors that topped out at 268-270 with that turbo and PSI, and were only able to get to 300 on 93 and nearly 21psi. Heck, I have seen 18gs and 20gs as well as FP Green's fail to make that hp and torque on 93 on either 2.0l or 2.5l, some with water injection and FMICs.

My tune was during a cold night in the winter, thus reflecting higher numbers. Prior to this tune I had everything listed minus EWG, intake, and turbo inlet and I was putting down 273 to the wheels. These are just numbers and it should not matter. It's all about real world performance in my opinion.

You can get protunes on the V1 I have a couple on mine right now. I believe most tuners are still able to do them.
