VF22 vs VF34

Hey I am considering what turbo I should go with on my car. Wondering if some people can post some links and info on the two turbos and what the major differences are. Any info would help alot! Thank you!

If you spent some time and searched, I'm SURE that you'll find some information about it. All you really have to do is go to a place that sells it and read the description for both. To sum it up:

VF34: Identical to the VF30 but with a ball bearing center section. Used on the STi RA Spec. C model. Provides slightly improved response over the VF30 and better reliability with anti-lag systems.

VF22: Originally used on Ver.3 JDM WRX & WRX RA models. This is the largest of the VF series turbos and is recommended for use on cars with significant modifications and where flow capacity is more important then response time. Ball bearing center section with large P20 turbine housing.

VF34 spools faster but won't blow as much air topend.
VF22 spools slower but will blow much more air topend. (25psi at 7000rpm)

Sorry for the hijacking the thread but this relates to the prev question. For the VF22 description 2nd line down, where it says "for use on cars with significant modifications and where flow capacity is more important then response time." If the VF22 used with stock internals of the engine will it damage the engine? and it is not recommended?

get the 34...

the 22 doesn't put out better #'s than the 30/34... and it spools slower

get a 34 beacuse they only like ~50-100 more

I personally am going for the VF22 because of the extra amount of air it is able to blow. I don't see how everyone makes such a big deal about the turbo spooling later, about 3300RPMs for full boost is pretty good in my opinion (depending on parts and tuning). I'm boosting 16psi by 3000RPMs with the stock turbo and the TurboXS FMIC, so I can live with 300-500 more RPMs so that I can ACTUALLY have top end power and not have it fall on its face everytime. If you have the right parts to help spool time and good tuning, then the turbo lag shouldn't be that big of an issue. I am running an AccessPort as well, so I'm just going to wait until the tuner comes out and then have the car dyno tuned.

The reason for the significant engine modifications is that you basically HAVE to upgrade your injectors and pump to be able to supply the right amount of fuel since it puts out a lot more air compared to the stock TD04 turbo. You also need to have a bigger intercooler since the stock one would be to restrictive for that turbo. I mean, don't get me wrong you can use it, but it won't be as efficient. You should be able to get away with stock internals with the VF22 as long as you don't get to crazy with the boost. The only thing I would worry about is how you're tranny will hold up

That's just my two cents.
