With any turbo upgrade you need some sort of Engine Managment as well as larger injectors and a fuel pump and a catless up-pipe. Thoes are the bare minimums you will need to keep from blowing up your engine.
There really is no "best" turbo. What you need to decide is what you want to do with your car. And then go from there to decide on what turbo you want. I'd recomend going to www.boostplanet.com and asking thenm a few questions.

From what I have been reading the vf22 is the best bang for the buck. it is supposed to have one hell of a whallop when it comes on and the lag has been exagerated. I picked up a vf30 and will be sending it to deadbolt.

4eat with a vf34 on vishnu dyno. 20 more hp than an sti, mind you i also have an auto, a stick will get you another 20hp or so. and if you know about the auto it's a laggy sucker. but after getting a vishnu stage two, great spool and power. check out vishnu forum they have a bunch of dyno post on there. all the stage 2 are vf34 injectors fuel pump turboback upipe pully and ecu.
