Turbo Timer

I threw in the Apexi auto timer. After a lot of work, I finally got it running right. There isn't much to it, it was just difficult getting the proper wiring for the ECU. If you know about cars, a turbo timer isn't too hard to install. You can buy wiring harnesses, but if you plan to keep the car for awhile, it is more efficient to just solder the turbo timer into the ignition system. Then from there you just need to complete the wiring. I believe that most turbo timers run off of the Tachometer readings, but some like the Apexi run off of the O2 readings from the car.

Hey guys-
I'm trying to help my friend mod his WRX and I'm wondering if there are any pre-wired turbo timer harnesses available? I know you can hardwire it to the ignition harness but I'd rather just use a pre-wired harness if available. Thanks in advance for any help. Regards, WMP

Thanks for the heads up man, I don't know why I didn't check other sites beside GReddy.

Car Info: $200,000 sports car
Something else to consider...
Clifford makes an alarm with a turbo timer and remote start option built in. Simply activate the remote start while the car is running, remove the key, and the engine will run for 5 minutes for cooldown and then shut down like normal.

i have a stock wrx and i was wondering if i should install a turbo timer. if i should, what brand should i get? for the people who already have turbo timers, do you use them every time you turn off your car or just when you have been driving it fairly hard?

Personally, I feel that a turbo timer is absolutely necessary if not for anything else more than convenience. Without having one on my GS-X and MR2, I always had to leave a couple minutes earlier so I could sit in the car and let the oil cool properly.
Generally, the timer will have a set initial countdown time that engages every time you turn off the ignition. Time is added according to RPM, psi, driving time, etc.
Which brand depends on which features you want. The Blitz DTT-DC for instance has a digital boost gauge. Most all newer units have some secondary features like volt meter, speedometer, etc. I just use inexpensive ones, HKS Type-0 or GReddy FullAuto...

There is no point to it. I have pulled out the entire bracket (it contains that small plastic trim, and the vent covers. There is nothing behind it. It was a good place to install my turbo timer since I went with the Apexi, it fit perfectly. The color match is close enough as well, that is why I chose apexi (and the fact that it has a theoretical A/F was nice too.

Cool thanks kingb! Does the A'PEXi timer have a secondary part beside the silver pencil shaped display? My intentions are to fit a standard sized timer (HKS or GReddy) into that actual slot. A little Dremel work might be necessary. Can someone please give me the measurements of that silver plastic panel? Thanks in advance. Regards, WMP

It has a small relay involved, but the majority of it just fits into the "pencil" part of the turbo timer. I think with a dremel tool you would be able to fit a normal sized timer into that slot. That was my plan originally, but then I found the Apexi, and it just worked out better. I will check the dimensions and get back to you on those.
