turbo lag...

People say that the VF35 has a pretty quick spool up compared to stock. Yet, I'm not getting full boost (around 1.2-1.3 bar) until about 3400-3600. Isn't that about the same area stock spools?

I also have a Ecutek reflash, PDE Uppipe, MRT turbo back, 550cc STi Injectors. Everything power related is stock. Any help in lowering turbo lag? Since I want the low end torque more than top end.

i don't think any of the IHI turbos well, with the exception of PE's have had any lag issues as compared to other turbo's on the market. in fact, i think the VF22 which is the biggest out of the IHI line or rather, the VF series turbos, supposedly has the most lag due to the P20 exhaust side. however, many have stated that it's not even that bad, in fact, it's better than some of the others out there. if you're comparing it to the small TD04 that we have stock, then yes, it will have a bit more lag, but it's the topend that will make up for it. and i would suffer a little more spool up time for more bang up top anyday. that small stocker just runs out of breath and it sucks. what size exhaust are you running? my stock turbo reaches full boost at about 2500 to 3000 rpm, and i have a cobb stage 2 and 3" straight back, coupled to a bellmouth downpipe. damn, low end is unbelievable, virtually no lag whatsoever. i also heard (don't quote me though) that the VF35 would suite an automatic more than a manual, not sure though. maybe you should try the either the VF39, 30, 34, or 22. or on the other hand, you could try to source the VF23, 24, 28, 29. these have a bit more low to midrange punch but less top end. it all depends what you're looking for. goodluck.

Any turbo that spools faster than stock, will make less top end than stock. Any turbo that makes more power than stock, has more lag. Pretty much a universal rule for every turbo car ever made.
