Top Mount vs. Front Mount

Hay there guys, I know about the main differences between a top vs. front mount inter-cooler. My original plan was to purchase a top mount, but I am getting a deal on a brand new front mount for 700.00 with custom piping and a greddy type core. Should I stick with my original plan and get a top mount or just go for this front mount? By the way, the reason I am purchasing a new inter-cooler is because I am doing a turbo upgrade to an 18g.

Thanks everyone

I would go with the front mount if I were you because, your going with a bigger turbo, your going to want more air flow, which the front mount would provide and its also going to be better if you change you setup sometime down the road.

depends on what kind of driving you are doing. TMIC will give you a faster spool up time, but will also have a little more heat soak. FMIC will spool a little faster, but will keep everything a little cooler. For that price, go with the FMIC and if you dont like it, sell it and get a big TMIC.

As for the TMIC outside air doesn't seem to get pushed directly
into the fins like the FMIC so,air with the TMIC indirectly hits the
the intercooler and if it wasn't for the hood scoop that Subaru
engineered specifically for the WRX and STI it wouldn't work as
well as it does. The major downfall for the TMIC is the heat soak
issue as heat rises.Overall the FMIC is most efficient of all because
air is being forced directly into it witch will flow more air and lower
the intake charge temps more increasing performance because of
lower under hood temps.
Since you have plans to upgrade to a 18g you will
greatly benefit from a FMIC go for it.

Front Mount.

I run a top mount on the rally car because I can keep driving if I have a small "off" during a race. I was battling heating issues all this year with the top mount until I upgraded the hood scoop, installed intercooler sprayers, and made a much better seal between the hood scoop and intercooler.

I still have a problem with heat soak so on a street car I would not hesitate in going with the front mount.
