Td05 or Td06 20G too big?

I have an 02 WRX with a TBE, up-pipe, UTEC, and TXS FMIC. In the future I plan on upgrading the turbo. I was looking at the 18G but I don't want to get it and only be half way satisfied. Are the 20G turbos too big for a 2.0, and how much difference is there between the TD05 and TD06? What kind of power will all 3 of the turbos make? thanks

TD05 and TDO06 are the exhaust side sizes. There are very many TD06 versions too. So to say that you wanna run TD06 20G is not enough info.

Generally speaking, 20G is on a larger side of things, however, a well put together TD06** with 20G compressor and 8cm^2 exhaust housing will do just fine. Sure it won't be as responsive as VF turbo's, but you will make more power. Also, there are internal and external gate setups, so that will kinda determine how well it would work.

As for myself, I am running TD06H-25G (Greddy T67) with 10cm^2 exhaust housing with an external gate. On a stock WRX motor and FMIC, my car make 312 wheel HP on Shiv's Dynamic Dyno on PUMP gas. Then I tried a built motor but it failed before I could get it tuned, so now I am using JDM Spec C engine and the car feels a lot better and response is good for such large turbo. Have not have a chance to really hit the dyno with it.

Hope this helps.

turbo

So what are the advantages of the smaller and the larger exhaust housings? Im assuming more top end power with the larger one. Will boost kick in before 4000?

I wouldn't recommend a TD06-20g for a 2.0. That is a pretty big exhaust housing and the combination of the two wheels would take forever to get moving. What sort of power are you looking for? What about a TD05H-16g, larger TMIC, Pinks, and a pump. That should be pretty sweet setup.

You can get a small 16g or a big 16g. Forcedperformance has good choices at good prices.

I would agree. Your engine won't last to long with a 20g too. I would say a super 16g or an 18g.

I would like around 300 WHP on a fairly conservative tune give or take a little. Am I asking too much? Where do these turbos spool up at? I am currently getting full boost at about 2900 rpms and im not tuned. I don't want something super laggy. Something that will spool up around 3500 to 4000 would be nice.

300whp is ALMOST ok with a VF34.

Or, look into the new Perrin GT kits.

Or, get a GREDDY 18G kit.

Yeah, I am still using a sleeved turbo. I am still waiting for JDM HKS 3037S setup kit, then I will go BB.
