Stutter in power while Air Conditioning is on?
I have a few questions regarding my 02 WRX . . . .
Lately when I have been driving with the air conditioning on the car seems to stutter or jerk for about a half a second every 45 seconds or so. I dont know too much about what is going on but I think that the AC compressor turning on causes this blip and loss of power. Sometimes it happens when I'm coasting at 40mph (i can actually hear a little squeaking noise too) or when I'm taking off from a light. When I'm accelerating and there is load on the engine the 1/2 second stutter is very noticeable and annoying. What could be wrong?
Also, I'm wondering if I should get the Subaru recommended tuneup when I get to 30k miles (at 29,000 now)? It costs around 450$ and seems pretty comprehensive. Is it worth it? I'm also thinking about a COBB stage 1 ECU remap . . . any comments on that? Do I need a tuneup before I get that done?
I appreciate any insight you guys could give me . . . . thanks!

The AC saps power like crazy on the WRX. To make matters worse, on days that are hot enough to make you wanna turn on the AC, the heat makes the car slower too (remember that warm air travels more slowly through the engine and makes the intercooler work harder). A real double-whammy.
But at least this gives you an argument when your passengers call you cheap for not turning on the AC

My wife's car (02 WRX) was chirping pretty loudly when the compressor came on. The dealer just tightened the belt just a bit and it went away.
Mine started doing the same thing and I plan to tighten it myself since it's two bolts (the locking bolt, and the actual tensioner). I could see how far they tightened it on my wife's car and it was something like 1-2mm....so not very far.

as for the other part of your question.
for the 30k, you can do most of it yourself and what you can't do. take it to the dealership or a shop. It will save you money and not void your warranty. it doesn't matter about the tuneup before or after the remap.
It cost me about $150 to do my 30k. that was all synthetic and someone to change my coolant.
