Stripped intercooler bov thread

While I was putting my bov back on I overtightened it and stripped the thread on one of the 2 holes.. Is there anyway I can fix this.. don't tell me I have to buy another i/c.. I'm thinking about ordering a gfb bov. Some one told me that a new bolt should fix it.. any ideas?

your intercooler is aluminium, and the bolts that you're threading into the I/C are probably steel, which means that a new bolt *might* be able to re-cut the threads in the aluminium -- but it wouldn't count on it. i'd recomend that you get a tap (the cool used to cut threads into an object) and use that to cut a new set of threads into the hole in the intercooler. be sure to get one with the same thread pitch and diameter as the bolt you stripped the threads with. when you're done with that, flush the I/C with acetone and use an airhose to blow it out so that you get all the aluminium swarf out of the I/C before you hook it back up. the last thing your turbo of cylinder heads need is a little chunk of aluminium getting sucked into them. if you're not comfortable doing this, have a shop do it. next time, use a torque wrench. oh, and get a new bolt while you're at it.

if that does not work go buy the right size heli coil and do it that way. those bolts don't need to be real tight. THOMAS

You can probably use some JB Weld and re-thread with a tap
