strange whine when cold: 2002 wrx
Hey guys,
I wasn't sure which forum to put this in so I thought this one would get the most attention. Lately my 2002 wrx with 90K on it has been making a strange whine in the morning when it's cold. It is a continuous noise that seems to get a little louder or more pronounced when I put the clutch in. Being in gear or not doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas?? I was thinking it's transmission related but I don't know. However this noise is tricky because after awhile it goes away AND to make it an even more annoying noise, sometimes when it's cold it's not even there!!
Any help or direction would be great.
Thanks guys,
Greg

oh sorry! totally forgot about that...
here you go...
stage 1 tune from Ed at Eq tuning.
straight pipe for a catback exhaust
SPT intake
whiteline sways and endlinks
that's it.
everything else is stock.

Its not going to be the throwout bearing because it gets louder when he pushs in the clutch! If it was the throwout bearing, it would stop making noise with the clutch depressed and wouldn't just majically stop a day later.

There are a few threads about "alternator whine" that people have heard only when its cold on this site, there is alot of threads about it on nastysock.
P.s. get down into the floor board and look behind the brake pedal up on the firewall and tell us if the rubber firewall plug has fallen out. If so then that hole being open will amplifiy all the engine noises into the cabin...........
