Some please tell me if the AEM cold air intake is safe to use on a WRX

It's unnecessary, you will run lean. Don't slap one on.

I think its safe. Almost no performance gains but nice sounds and much easier to change half your spark plugs .

Yep. That's what I said. Note that I did not say "it IS safe" because I have yet to get a UTEC or data logger to check knock readings and I also do not have a wideband O2 sensor installed to verify my A/F ratio.

Do you have any first hand evidence that it will cause a car to run lean? And if so how much? What A/F ratios are you seeing (both closed and open loop)?

My AEM CAI has been on the car for a couple months now and the only other mods are just a catback exhaust for now. No cels or any other problems. It did drop 0.1 sec off my quater mile time with no other mods (before I installed the cat back). And I would not have purchased it for any significant amount of money (I paid $80 used).

P.S. If Cta0784 asked if an AEM CAI (or any CAI for that matter) is worth it my answer is probably the same as yours. NO. But in response to his question, I think its safe. .

Mister2,

Yeah I've been able to see in my UTEC logs how it leans out my mixture. Much the same as how the atmo BOV richens up the mixture a little right after a shift. I guess somebody could use the two to even each other out, but since their effects are in different places in your powerband, I doubt it.

Oh, to answer the original question, if your engine is stock (stage 0 or 1), you should be rich enough that adding the CAI shouldn't make you lean enough to detonate.

i've had mine on since the beginning of summer...no problems at all...i thought it cause a cel once, but it was because of the downpipe...to me, the only way to find out the truth is try it for yourself...i myself havn't had any problems so far so i'm leavin it on...just my 2 cents
