As ImpalaSSAutoX learned at the Auto X about 2 weeks ago, check all the inlet and outlet tubes for oil from the turbo. Some leaks into the DP and it goes out the back and makes a pretty good smoke show. When cold pull the heatshield and tighten EVERYTHING. Then if that doesnt work then go to MPJ and they will fix it for you.

Hi,
I've also got smoking from my tailpipe. One year old 2004 WRX wagon with about 14,500 miles on her. No modifications. Oil changed every 3k, hardly ever driven hard. I live in NYC and do a bit of city driving, but not on a daily basis.
I noticed the smoke at idle too. Never seen it otherwise, but I don't suppose I would see it if it were smoking and I was going 60 down the interstate.
I wasn't in the chatroom the other day, but "blowby" from the rings REALLY concerns me. Are you suggesting that if I pull the dipstick while the engine is running and smoke comes out of the whole, I've got worn rings? And if I don't, it may have to do with the ducting to the turbo? I get my oil changed at Metric Subaru in Long Island, I haven't had them look at this yet. Good dealer to have them deal with it?
Many thanks,
David

My stock '03 smoked after only 3000 miles. I should've taken it into the dealer but I couldn't reproduce the problem. It does it regularly now after running idle for a few minutes; I've got a fully catless exhaust, I also hear a dropping sound that sounds like something is dripping in the downpipe. I'm thinking oil is dropping down in there and burning.

well wow i poseted this on march 30th or so and now its may 18th somone told me it could be the turbo so i was gonna change it anyway i took the stock turbo out and put in a vf34 with some injectors a new utec and pump been unning my car since and never smoked yet so i was lead to belive the oil seals in the turbo were leaking
not sure if thats the same prob you are havin or what but the stock turbo i had in there only had about 16k on it and it was off of an 03
