It might actually be running lean. An catless uppipe, free-flowing downpipe and catback is a significant amount of backpressure reduction and best power will come from tuning. Most Subaru tuners offer off-the-shelf reflash maps for these mods.

it could be a zillion things... I've been battling that code for weeks. Even put my car completely back to stock and still have it. Cars runnning great. Start looking at hoses around the turbo and intercooler. A common one I've heard is the small vacum hose on the lower side of the BOV can pull of pretty easy. My best guess on mine wont be answered untill I get my turbo inlet hose.

I've changed my turbo a fews times and the hose clamp joining the turbo to the inlet pipe chews away and tears a hole in the inlet pipe, allowing your turbo to pull in small amounts of unfiltered air from under the hood.

If you do a search for the code a both clubs, you'll find that this is a very common code with lots of possible fixes.

I dont' think I'm a noob, but I dont see how much help a BOV would be if you're running lean. The lean condition happens under normal cruising at less than 60% throttle. I understand that venting the boost off into the atmosphere will prevent it from throwing the air back into the intake, but I don't think you could call it the source of the problem. You should prove it first by resetting the light and then watch very carefully to see if it comes on right when the valve blows off. I'm willing to bet the BOV isn't doing anything when the sensor's reading the prob.

On a side note, I think I just solved my P0171 problem. I read that people were getting this to happen after going back to stock injectors (what I did) because the fuel in the injectors crystalized during non use abd clogged them. I just ran through a second tank of fuel system cleaner and the problem apears to be corrected.

When was the l;ast time you changed your fuel filter??? The maint. schedule says to do it at 30k service intervals. Mine threw me a P0171 code at 23k and because my fuel filter was mucked up. Damn CA gas sux!
