Remove 2 Cats and still pass CA emissions?
Thinking about putting in a Helix UP and DP but keeping a catback exhaust (like Borla) on and thn getting an ECU tune
My car's an 03, bought last April
anyone know how the emissions look after that and when the car is due for it's first emissions test?
I can never remember

1 cat in Up-Pipe 2 in Downpipe .. You can buy a High Flow cat that you can put into your midpipe. Basically, when you replace your downpipe and get a cat-back .. everything behind your turbo is replaced. Maybe you were thinking of an Axel-Back.

There is no way it would pass. A friend of mine works with smog techs and they are running into a lot of 'new' cars that are getting their first smogs from 2000. I know they are V8's, but the Cadillac Northstars are failing he said, as an example. Cal emmisions are really strict and he was telling me that some other cars that are considered clean when new are really really close to the failing mark. I guess apparently, the cats they put in some of these cars are only good for about 30-50K miles.

like the other people said above, a helix dp/up will replace all cats. You will not have 1 cat left. You will have to buy a dp that replaces only the 2nd cat, then you'll have the last cat.
So if u were to go in for a smog check, and had 1 cat, you better make sure your car is running very hot when testing. Otherwise you'll most likely fail. But other than that, you might pass the sniffer test, but not the visual inspection (if they really look into it).

I know for a fact that the Fremont Smog station didn't even look under my car, or dig deep into the engine. So maybe he'll be the same with the rest.
