Reliability of the new WRX's
Howdy fellas,
I haven't kept up with these boards in a long time but I tried a search and didn't find anything. I think I remember reading on these boards something about the transmissions of the '03 model being delicate or something along those lines. Could someone clear this up for me? My other question is roughly how much do you think the STI will cost when it's released in May? Lastly what is the general opinion on the new body change and when will it show up at dealers. I personally like the body style of the current rex better than the pictures I've seen of the new one. Thanks for any help!

Scooby1,
Probably better responses in the "General" area,
But to answer your question (somewhat) The 03s have a clutch restricter that helps with the "Glass" transmission that is NOT really a "Glass" transmission,
The Tranny was not made to sustain the shock of full clutch drops, and abuse on asphalt that we used to do in the ol,days to our "HotRod" 2WD cars!
The WRX is designed for Rally type raceing and NOT the 1/4mile
(Although it CAN be used that way IF you learn to launch it correctly and dont mind excessive Clutch/drivetrain wear)
IF you treat it with respect and dont "hammer" it like a Top Fueler Im sure it will give you long life.
The 04s?,.....Im happy with the "Big Eyeballs" on my 03

to add another 2¢ ...
the '03 trannys had a 'bigger' first gear, and 'better' syncro's. If you have a '02, and have syncro problems, they will be replaced with the newer version as they no longer install the '02 version. Same with 1st gear.
