Question on Crank pulley install

I was reading the Vishnu Performance Stage Zero install instructions and had a question regarding part 1 of the install (underdrive pulley). Do you really need to jack the car up and put it on jack stand if you are just doing the pulley remove and install? I have to help a friend remove his Perrin Crank Pulley and just wanted to make sure we do it right. He is going back to stock and trading his 02 WRX. Any info will be much appericated.

No jack stands are not required. Get a 3 foot long breaker bar to break loose the nut 17 mm i believe. Then from there take it off and put it back on with the key hole in the right spot. Then once you have it on torque it to the required, 85lbs i believe. Not for sure on that though. Good Luck and dont break the radiator hose doing it.

You don't have to jack the car up. Actually it is a 22mm deep socket and you have to crank it up to 96lb.ft of torque. How do I know? I just did it this weekend.

The only reason you would need a jackstand, is if the pulley bolt is seased and you would want to throw the jackstand at it in anger.
