question on Bov on 4eat with turbo xs type h
I just recently had a bov installed to my MY02 4eat sedan with a turbo xs type h . At idle when reving the car a t around 5500 rpm the valve lets off and sounds great. O n my way home from the tuner shop after they installed it he said i would here it flutter a bit. MY question is why dont i hear that nice blow off valve noise i hear at idle revving when i am on the highway. I opted not to get the rfl for my wife and even she said that is it. The sound is awesome when revving it at idle and finally it lets loose b ut i am very unhappy when i am cruising or under heavy driving on highway. The installer at the tuner shop put two washers in the bov for adjustment. He says he does that for near stock cars. Do you think it needs adjusting? or when i get my reflash and boost is increased will that help?, or does it need time to work it self in? Thanks for any help

yes
when i am in park or nuetral with my auto matic and i rev the engine the blow off valve goes off and sounds awesome. But when i am cruising on the highway from the tuner shop and pushing the car hard i dont notice anything. If i let off the gas i hear what i would call a fluttering noise from the blow off valve. He told me i may hear that but my question is will that go away. It doesnt sound the same at idle reving it as it does when i am moving. I want it to sound like it does in park or nuetral when i am moving.
Could it be because it is an automatic and it has a softer shift than if it was a manual and i could push it more? I was wondering if fellow automatic drivers with the wrx have the same problems or if the blow off valve needs an adjust ment.
Also the turbo xs type h is rated for 10-25psi of boost and they rate it at the factory to hold 30. when i get my ecu reflashed by cobb and boost is increased but within save perimeters will it help.
thanks

maybe you're not building any boost on the highway. have you tried to gun it for a brief moment and let off the gas? ive had the hks bov for about 30mins and driving on the streets i wouldnt build any pressure and no noise was made, but when i actually was boosting the noise was there whenever i let off the gas.

Re: yes
I dont know why you wouldn't get the BOV sound when you are in boost and then let off the gas, but get in neutral, I wouldn't think you would get it in neutral at all, since you don't build boost in neutral. The reason you dont't get the BOV when driving hard is because the auto does not blow of much between shifts so you are'nt going to hear it then.

thanks ill have to try that
My friend suggested the same thing. I figured ast eh turbo spools and i am ripping down the high way at say 85-90 that there would be enough pressure. If i let off the gas on the highway i could hear it but not like i can just sitting there and revving the car for my son he gets a kick out of it. He is almost 9 and likes it. it still may need another washer or something. Ill post tomarrow when i take it out on some straight back roads by my house. most of the time on the way home i was in alot of congestion but when the cars cleared and i got on it i didnt notice that much. i can hear it over stock but i wish it will go off like it does in park or nuetral

yeah i was thinking that but
it says only to add the washers till the valves are closed and the idle sounds good. what do the washers do make it easier to open? I was thinking if i get a reflash the increased boost will help also.
Are there any 4eat guys running a bov? If so how does urs sound?
thanks

im running a GFB stealth. 4eats and BOV's work differently. unlike a 5mt when you hear the BOV between shifts, the BOV on a 4eat only works when you build boost then let off the gas. I get a big woosh when i hit .5 bar and let off the gas.
