Question a question about crankcase breathing

Related to my IC hose install today......when I removed the factory Y-hose, it was a little oily inside....not dripping, but coated with a film. And the intercooler had a light oily film inside where the aluminum elbows bolt on the underside. I imagine this is somewhat normal (engine has 35K on it, is stock, runs well....gets 22-23mpg on the average), but is there a way to improve the factory breather setup in an effort to REDUCE the amount of oil mist in the intake? (promotes detonation, as oil lowers the octane of the fuel mixture)

Or am I beating this motor within inches of its life?
