Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Ah yes.. yet again I am a grave-digger.. digging up old, dead posts.

First off.. does your 22 spike/boost creep or go over that 18psi setting? What is your boost control? What engine management? Also.. did you use the stock wastegate hoses from the stock turbo or did hoses come on the 22? -- those first questions are to try to help my spiking problem.. the following comments are in response to your problem(s).

Is the oil line torqued down properly? Have you changed your pcv valve recently?

Is it burning oil, a little, or is it consuming it, a lot.

I had the same issue with my p/p td04.. thats why I went with the 22.. I still get oil smells etc.. but I don't see any smoke, I guess all the blowby is goin to the catch can where it belongs.

Also, look right before the turbo inlet (between the inlet pipe and the turbo itself) is there built up gunk/oil/grease? Is there grease in between the two piece of the turbo near the clamp? I know for the fact that the stock turbo inlet hose is junk, mine fell apart on me @ 57,000 miles. A hole literally developed in the top of it and it was spewing oil everywhere. Then again, I did have a ton of blowby for some ungodly reason (the seals were shot on the turbo, when it took it off there was sludge coming out of the exhaust side, pretty "redonkulous"). Anywho, I did a compression test.. it came out alright.. 155 1, 3, 4, 154 cylinder 2..

So err.. yeah.. anyway.. if you can, give your motor a compression test just for sh*ts and giggles. But the turbo seal.. its pretty easy to tell just with the downpipe removed and the heatshield off with a good visual inspection.

Sorry for my rambling and hoped i helped a little bit telling you my scenario.

Good luck!
-G
