My 03 burning oil and CHECK ENGINE Light On????

I have a 03 WRX with uppipe, DP, and Catback and recently my Check Engine Light Came on. This is the second time that it has happened. My oil was low, I filled it up, disconnected the battery, and the CEL was off. Then about 3 weeks later it came back on. Is there a oil sensor that will throw a check engine light if it goes too low, and I'm not sure why my car is burning that much oil. There is almost 50K miles on my car, and I don't drive it too hard. Can anyone help me??

what CEL did it throw? Go to Autozone and borrow their OBDII scanner. Pull the code and report back.

I went to Autozone and this is what I came up with:

Dealer code# p1312- Manufacturer Controlled ignition system or misfire

spark plugs maybe??? I have never changed them yet. I want to change them anyway if that is the problem. Does anyone know how involved the job is to do that? And also what kind of plugs do you guys recommend. I heard plugs with the iridium tip is the ****.

Anyway, if it isn't the spark plugs what else could it be? Is it going to hurt my car if I drive it under that condition?(I guess it just depends on what it is)

Thanks for your help

I had a misfire code once (it came up with cat codes when I first put on my exhaust~30Kmi.). Once I did the up and exhaust cel fixes, its been cel free, now Im at 58K.

You dont have to change spark plugs til 60K miles but I had mine changed at ~45K miles and the car felt much better. Good luck

My 04 WRX is also burning engine oil for some reason.I use the same oil
that the Subaru service department uses too.In about three or four weeks
I check the dipstick and it is dry.My car burns about one quart or more every
month.I have the same problem as you do and I have no mods yet that is the sad
part.Anyone know what the problem could be?

It could be the turbo leaking oil through the exhaust housing

Would it be something that would be obvious if I looked at the turbo or is it something that I'm gonna have to wrench on to find?

As far as the oil burning goes, I assume you're using a 30wt oil. Try moving up to a 40 or 50 wt and see how the burning goes. Subaru is now moving to a 10w50 as the factory oil fill, so there is no harm in using a heavier oil. See this article for the oil subaru will use:
