Muffler test results (your opinion)
As much as I love loud, straight, 5" pipes. My wife and my ears don't. I have a loud car and want to keep my 03' wagon subtle yet sporty.
From your experience what is a good performing quiet muffler. I am not looking to remove all the cats but am considering a downpipe. How does this affect engine noise? What about a n intake?

Downpipe..... get the Bosal (it only removes the actual Downpipe Cat) not the midpipe as well.
Exhaust that isn't TOO loud..... Uhhhh, TurboXS has a good one. The Stealh back keeps your stock muffler, but is a full turboback..... I'm not a big fan of that. Uhh, dunno........ do more research on the Exhausts.... it's all a matter of preference.

i would get the TXS stealthback exhaust.
great quality and construction.
great performance and the quietness that u look for.
u can actually have a normal conversation in the car while driving.
this is what i got and i highly recommend it.

I have the Prodrive axelback accompanied by the TXS Stealthback (no cats). The muffler is pretty quiet at idle and has a nice roar at WOT but I wouldn't consider it loud at all. After I initially installed it I thought it was a little loud but now that I've had it on for several months I actually wish it were a little louder, I don't know, maybe I'm going deaf.

If you have Excel, check out this file that compares 15 different mufflers:
http://www.mattrandolph.com/wrx/Muff...o-shootout.xls
There are 4 tabs at the bottom of the document.
tab 1 is HP
tab 2 is torque
tab 3 is decibels
tab 4 are the orginal scans the i got all this data from.
The Borla XS was the quietest of all 15 while getting very high scores in HP & TQ. Note the low end torque of the Borla XS. Very important for us turbo lagging REXers.
If you don't have Excel you can see the jpg's here:

It is hard to make turbo charged cars really really loud as the turbo cuts out a LOT of noise (espically with a cat or two). That's why we don't get the lawnmower with a megaphone sound like the N/A honda's with exhausts do.
And I also recommend the TurboXS unit. I have the full TBE with their muffler. Sweet sound, not loud at all.

Car Info: 2016 Acura RDX ... meh. Um, nice subwoofer?
From most of what I've heard, I still like mine the best: HKS Hiper. Its throaty and yet quite. Oddly sometimes it seems like the idle burble is louder than WOT compared to other cars. It seems a bit louder since I got my uppipe, but that's more characteristic-based I think than sheer addition of volume... due to what others have said about a turbo being a great noise sink.
As for performance, it seems to be the best performer all around from Turbo magazines WRX exhaust shootout. Its not the highest in all categories... but all around it seem to be the hands down winner.
I've got one and I love it. www.Gruppe-S.com sells it for pretty cheap. I've never been pulled over for the rediculous, and mis-applied, "modified exhaust" ticket.
