Low end power????
What's a good way to get more low end (0-60 MPH) power out of a 02-03 WRX??
The car only has a up & down-pipe for mods. I'm asking this for someone else.
Any ideas?

Exhaust will make a difference.
I always believed that a small diameter exhaust such as a Scoobysport with a 2.5" diameter piping was better for low end compared to bigger diameter ones.
boost controller will help a bit, especially in the midrange.
3/16th's mod.
IC hoses
UTEC or any aftermarket ecu with tuning esp Ecutek and Cobb reflashes.
And then if you're that daring,
Go for those GT series turbos or any low spooling ballbearing turbos.
Cams and other internals.

i wouldn't waste my money on the s/s exhaust.
the cheapest and easiest way to gain quicker 0-60 times is a mbc. I think we've beat that dead horse plenty of times.
You will never see 'full' boost in 1st and 2nd gear (0-60mph, right??) without some kind of boost control, ... so if you want a significant gain ....

I maintain that if you have the UP/DP combo - the cat back affects your power output very insignificantly.
Going from the Prodrive to UNCORKED wasn't worth much at the track...

I don't quite think so because its all dependent on what you get.
Look at it this way, alot of power, even at low end, is lost through the stock exhaust system's huge restrictive bends and resonators. Thinner diameter, more backpressure.
What I don't get though is for the STI and how many people lose low end torque from it. But I do realize they're using huge *** top end 3.0" diameter systems.

Yeah but was that top or low end power? I think it would be top end right?
This is just a really nice older guy that doesn't want too much attention, he reads this board everyday, but wants to stay lowkey. He has no-plans to ever race his car, he just wants a little more power from stoplight to stoplight.

Well I don't really get your question also Dan.
Low end is 0-3000rpm while you ask 0-60ft. While I'm standing by that a good exhaust system aimed for low end will make more power from 0-3000rpm, the results would be ungodly at 0-60ft.
Theres alot of ppl with exhaust systems that got faster in the 0-60ft time compared to the stocker.
