the last picture that I posted of my solution starts with heater hose for extra protection. I'll be probably doing the STI pipping instead of another retrofit

this actually won't work to well since it would require modification of the mounting brackets. When you tilt the intercooler upward you're not going to make a good connect to the throttle body which can cause a loss of power or a vacuum leak. I have thought of this but if you think about a tilted intercooler in a rubber hose connected to the throttle body the above trouble could happen or you'll eventually cause a rip in the rubber hose causing a leak.

Clearance between the back of the TMIC and the AC lines behind it is pretty tight. I would make sure to bend the AC line all the way back since I've heard of couple of people on NASIOC with holes on AC lines from TMIC rubbing on them.

not if you know how to do A/C. The most dangerous part is where are you going to put the 1394 refrigerant that's in your A/C system? It is illegal to vent it into the atmosphere. If you have the right equipment to do it then it's pretty easy. I'll be replacing mine once I get money or If I can find a wrecked STI somewhere

V7 STI TMIC is the biggest factory intercooler the impreza has ever came with. it's taller and maybe a little longer than the USDM. the Y pipe that is supplied (well mine anyway) has a longer rubber hose that connects to the turbo than a USDM and the hose clamp holder isn't on the back side of the rubber hose section but on the front I believe so that the hose clamp doesn't move down when tightening your hose clamp for the turbo.
