JDM STi TMIC Thoughts...

What your thoughts on a JDM STi TMIC from those of you that own them right now for your WRX?

right now my car performs really well with the stock TMIC and wanted a slightly bigger TMIC.. however the 2 different TMIC that I've tired so far aren't yeilding very good results... (though I'm still trying the second one at the moment so that my car can learn it).

Anyone got a good condition low to no damage JDM STi TMIC for sale?

Jon

I really hate when people do this... why play cop when you dont have to?

All my threads are seperate because they have different subjects... I'd like to know different things and don't the info to be put in one thread

Please don't treat me like n00by since I'm not and I know exactly how the search function works... I'm not finding the information that I want from previous thread and that's why I'm posting new ones.

I will start more threads if I need to.

Also please don't start problems in these forums... we don't need them.

If your not going to contribute to the thread then please don't reply to them.

You might want to try talking to someone at Rally Performance (www.rallyperformance.com). They installed an STI TMIC on their "STi Hunter" for the SCC comparo. I would assume they could have gone larger or just stayed with the stock unit. So you could always ask why they chose to go this route. Granted they were also running on the stock turbo.

The STi TMIC is not much larger than the stock (322 vs. 297 cubic inches). And it is dwarfed by other models that are available (TXS 634c.i. APS 677c.i.) And it's still smaller than the PWR you ran on (PWR 398 c.i.), and got slower times.

If you are trying to make gains with a TMIC with out re-tuning you will probably be disappointed. I am always sceptical of big gains made on big ICs, unless they are front mount and can be tuned accordingly and even then the numbers don't always add up to performance on the track.

You obviously don't know how to use the search function if you're asking those questions. The forum is a resource (along with nasioc.com, clubwrx.net, wrxfanatics.com), not a method to spoon feed you what parts can best go on your car.

If you'd read or searched AT ALL, you'd realize that upgrading the TMIC on the stock turbo with no method of tuning for it is a waste of time and money.

Whatever dude...I was just grouchy from clicking on FOUR of your threads asking for very commonly known info around these boards. I apologize if I offended your delicate sensibilities.

i think he was just asking for an opinion. isn't that what the boards are for? well, i'm not trying to bash anybody or start a **** war, as some of us do. anyway, INfEk, i think the JDM STi intercooler isn't very much bigger than the stock WRX one. i'd say, you should look into what your goal is and how much hp you want, then you can decide. it's a good upgrade for a VF30/34/39 if you can get it tuned. but for more efficiency, i'd go with either a APS or hyperflow TXS topmount or even a front mount. it just depends on what you want to do. hope this helps.

I'm not offended... I just wanted opinion... Info that I was finding was not to my liking and I wanted more info.

don't worry I know that I won't get much from not having it tuned

I have engine management at the moment FYI...

Thanks for your humble replies

yes this is a question that I've constantly asked myself just how much HP is to much

well I don't want to much of a heavily powered car since I do other motorsports such as auto-x.

Yes the APS/TXS TMIC are my favorite and I have also been looking at those same companies FMICs (They are really expensive though) and I cannot justify the cost until I upgrade my VF30 to something else (more HP is good).

I've done the research and BIGGER isn't always better . I'm just looking for something that works and so far I've tried both TXS v1 and PWR TMIC and I haven't gotten the best results and mostly since we DO NOT have an AWD Dyno here to tune my car...

Engine management is very important and I will definately have it tuned for whatever TMIC I get

infek, you really should search around for answers to your questions before you post them. for one, you get instant results- you don't have to wait for someone else to happen upon it, and you have little chance of getting verbally chewed on by the likes of eric here, among others. The primary purpose of i-club is to act as an online reference to collected information. 99% of questions that can be asked by members have been asked- and answered- previously. It's not uncommon, however, for people to search for answers, and find them only to have more questions arise. I really don't want to make it look like you shouldn't ask- no reason not to- but always look for your own answer. You'll come away more informed that way then just by waiting for the handful of people to respond to your edition of a question.

In my experience, there are many people who are capable of doing research for themselves but find it so much easier to demand instant gratification from others on boards like these...and therefore they don't do any research and expect...no demand.....answers to their questions...even if their questions have been covered ON THE SAME PAGE of the forum on the same day.

That said, one advantage that the JDM STi TMIC that I found in MY research is that it is much lighter than comparably sized bar-and-plate IC's and thus cools faster when heatsoaked....the weight is also better for keeping overall vehicle weight down.

MY 2¢
