Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

How much improvement should I expect?

I finally started to bite the bullet and shell out some cash for upgrades. '05 WRX Wagon. This is my daily driver, which I take 30+ miles each way to work.

So far all I've done is get the car lowered (Eibach Pro Kit) and some new wheels (17" O.Z. Superleggeras) and tires (215/45/17 Falken Azenis).

I have a TurboXS stealthback and Prodrive axleback on order, as well as a TurboXS UTEC. I've scheduled a couple of hours for dyno tuning.

About what should I expect in terms of power gains? Any other suggestions that would be reasonable for a daily driver?

I would recommend getting an up-pipe as well.

With an catless up-pipe you should get about 180-200 hp at the wheels depending on tune.

I'm not sure how much a stock up-pipe would make those numbers drop.

A stock uppipe will probably make those #'s drop 10+ hp. I would suggest a Helix Flex uppipe which removes a very restrictive pre-cat.

Thanks,
Preston

I don't mean to be dense, but how much is a stock WRX getting to the wheels, in that case? My uneducated guess was ~170hp, but if I can only expect 180 after installing a turboback and tuning, it must be much lower.

No, a stock WRX is putting down around 145-150 to the wheels.

Wow. Is that much crank-wheel power loss typical? THat's like 2/3rds of the rated power.

On the good side - that means I should be hauling *** at 180 to the wheels...

depending on which dyno, the readings vary on what a stock car puts out. On a stock wrx, they typically dyno at 165 to the wheels at Gruppe-S's dyno.

OK, assuming 165whp stock, it sounds like I should expect to see around ~185-195 or so with the full TBE and tuning (TurboXS UTEC and 2 hours of dyno tuning).

Does that sound about right?

I checked out gruppe-s's site, but they list bhp and I'm still not solid on what the ratio is for whp:bhp.

I reached 205 WHP from 159 WHP with a turbo-back, high-flow air filter and a tune.

After tuning I have 201 to the wheels, 205 if I put 93 in it. That is still 20 WHP less than a stock STI (they dyno at 220 typically) but it does absolutely haul ***. I'm not interested in playing stoplight drag, but I did a 0-to-60 for one of my co-workers while someone else caught in on video, and looking at the replay it was pretty nuts. 300 to the wheels would be a ticket to a jail cell, you just wouldn't be able to resist the urge to make some Vette or Mustang driver inhale their chewing gum as a little Japanese rice-burner vanishes into the sunset...

Just got done yesterday. I'm hitting 205 to the wheels, 210 with 93 octane. I'm very pleased
