hood scoop
We are planning to purchase a WRX this summer. During the winter, it will be used to commute along upstate N.Y. country roads in which are covered with salt, sand and mud. Our current suv arrives home at the end of the day with mud covering the car up to the windows. I am worried that the debris will enter the hood scoop and plug up the intercooler radiator. Is this something that I really have to worry about? If so, is there and aftermarket fix?

There's nothing that will get in there that a good washing can't deal with, but you don't want large chunks of salt or rock bending the fins on it. You can easily fashion a screen out of gutter guard and zip ties or wire ties from Home Depot for about $5. A can of spray paint might look good if your car isn't silver.

The screen that put on the hood scoop is used to block large object like bugs or little rock, but it can't screen salt and mud cuz the hole is large enough for those salt and mud go thru ,right?
or if the mud screened but blocked the hood scoop and no cold air go into the intercooler then made the IC go hot or inefficient...humm...sucks.
I think you may wash the IC with spray water after trip, that's help, maybe.
That's my opinion.
