Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Are you talking about the uppipe heat shield or the heat shield over the turbo? You might be able to get by using fewer screws but I figure that Subaru put them there for a reason. You know the old "Boss" Kettering saying - "Parts left out cost nothing and cause no service problems."

Maybe there are more screws to prevent heat warpage from occurring over time? Maybe a rattle will develop?

I've used just two bolts and its worked fine (this is after a bit of grinding to get it to fit over a vf34). The one on the top towards the drivers side of the bracket that connects to the downpipe bolts and the one on the back, passenger's side of the same bracket. No buzzing or anything.

I use only these because fitment is now an issue with the new turbo. If you can put them all in, you should.

This is probably a good time to mention that if at all possible, re-install the factory heat shields, even if you have to modify them. The question has come up before asking if they are really necessary. When you've got a TMIC (top mount intercooler) it is especially important to retain the heat shields in the vicinity of the engine compartment because there is a considerable amount of heat given off by the turbo and will contribute towards heat soak of the IC. Yes, when the vehicle is in motion the IC will cool back down but it will take that much longer to do so.
