Headers necessary...

wondering the benefits of putting headers on my WRX, i have a basic stage 2 (TBE, Up pipe, I speed ecutek, intercooler hoses...) would i benifit from headers, or is it pointless. i have heard it won't do much but wondering if any of you have tried em...

gruppe-s had a dyno chart up with there headers on a bone stock wrx. the gain is about 20hp.
i personally dont have experience with headers, but i think you might lose a little bit of lower rpm power in exchange for high rpm power.
it depends how you drive your car on weather or not you will like the headers

From what i've heard the performance gains really depend alot on your current setup. Obviously it will produce small gains no matter what but with other components say like a larger turbo the added flow really starts to matter.

I'll say you'll get anywhere from 5-15hp if you have an up pipe too. You should notice slightly earlier turbo spool up. But all these gains wouldn't be there without propper engine management.

Make sure if your thinking about headers its after a down pipe and up pipe. Otherwise the gains will be pretty minimal i believe. Also consider the accessport as an engine management tool before getting this.

I think headers are worth it if your running a vf series turbo or smaller. When i put put the gruppe-s v2 manifold on my car that has a vf30 i noticed some nice gains from mid-top. The only downside i see to the manifold is that it gets cold and takes a few minutes of driving to really warm up because the material isnt as thick as the stock cast iron manifold.

On the set up you describe, the gains wouldn't be all too dramatic. When I had mine (pre-PE1820) I noticed a minimal increase in high end power, and a loss in torque. Once the 1820 went on, it seemed to help airflow. <shrug> I'm kinda dumb, though

Oh, and Subaru designed a fairly good exhaust manifold. The stocker should be more then adequate. Unless you like that metallic "tingy" sound.

acually with the gruppe-s manifold that sound only comes when the manifold is cold. It still keeps the boxer note and sounds great. GP Moto and other equal length headers..... they sound like ****

you won't really get the wrx rumble anymore, well, from listening to a fellow iclub emember after he installed it on his rex. preformance wise, i dunno if it does make such a diffrence for the amount of money your paying for.

Headers will add to turbo lag but will greatly increase midrange and top end power. Another option is to portmatch stock headers, which a few have done and they result is slightly better top end and definitely better midrange with no ill effects to spoolup time.

If you're getting headers, I would get it jet-hot 2000 coated. It would help keep the exhaust gases hot.

Try this link:
http://www.speedstylesound.com/headers/
there was a comparison done on 7 different headers measuring hp/torque/boost on a stage 2 and stage 4 wrx, with charts. They all came in about the same as far as power gains. There is no final word on wrapping vs. coating. Accoring to articles from other hot rod sources both achieve similar results. One is cheaper one looks nicer.
