Explain a little more about "the tranny breaks"
There's alot of parts between the shifter and the drive.
I smoked the hell out of my stock clutch, and the upgraded to a spec stage 4 and haven't had much of a problem since.

well as far as all trannys are concerned.. dont beat the **** out of it.. be smart.. dont launch at 7k rpm every time your at a red light.. its just common sense.. you take care of your tranny.. it will take care of you.. haha
if you dont **** around you wont have any problems..
and if your doing big engine mods anyway.. you would be stoopit not to upgrade your tranny anyway.. i mean its only built to handle the stock engine block.. duh!
question and problem solved..

Bottom line- How much power do you want???? If all your going to do is slap a VF30/34 and go for 260-290 or so whp(depending on which dyno you use) and you treat it right the tranny should hold up nicely.........However the tranny appears to tolerate power better than outright abuse. If you launch hard....often....It gonna break. If you plan on using a BIG turbo and making a LARGE amount of hp you will need to get a strengthened gearset, dogbox, or a STI 6 spd conversion .

getting an aftermarket clutch would only worsen the problem. During a hard launch the clutch will grab tightly as oppose to the stock one that would slip more.
