Fuel pump Replacment?

I wanted to know whats up with replacing there fuel pumps? I've noticed alot of people doing this. Is this a very benificial thing to do? Are the pumps internal? I replaced my fuel pump in my chevy tahoe last year and that was not fun! Droping a 25gal tank to get to it. I hope to hear from folks that have done this, did you do it yourself or at a shop? Thanks for any info.

It is actually quite easy to replace; lift up the liner in the trunk and look at the right rear, there is the access hatch. You can even replace it without draining the tank; it installs from the top. However, be very careful there is no pressure in the line -- gas in your eye or mouth is no joke.

is a very detailed tutorial.

the stock pump can't supply enough pressure to the FPR when upgrading turbos/fuel system.

as meilers stated, the fuel pump swap is pretty easy to do.
