follow up on oil build up...please read and respond, i need help.

A while back i posted about having oil build up on the top of my intercooler...Today I took it in to have them look at it (and some other small stuff) The tech came out and he said that all the new cars have that build up...I didnt have it when i first bought the car, and a lot of other WRX's i have seen dont have it either...where should i go from here??

Don't know about your previous post - but a BIT of oil in the I/C is considered normal.

How much do you have? Can you take a picture?

You shouldn't have PUDDLES, but a slight amount of residue in the hoses/junctions isn't anything to be really worried about.

Just get a Greddy catch can. You will be fine. It is just oil blow-by.

Zoeb, did the tech indicate where the oil film *came* from?

If anyone following this thread is going to the Solano County meet on Sunday, ask Zoeb to show you the oil on his intercooler. Bring flashlights or fluorescent lanterns.

There's only about a 20% chance I'm gonna show - gotta work the next morning.

Pat,

Good catch! If it's not that underhood spray "goo" that they call rustproofing in FHI land I don't know what it might be!

Zoeb,

Can you take a picture of the build up and post it? I'd be interested in what we're talking about.

Pictures will definately help. How many miles did you have on your car before you noticed this? V-rod had a problem similar to this when he first got his car. Also do you notice any smoke?

what you really should do is get a good degreaser and clean it really really good. Then in a couple of days and see if you're getting any new build up.

i had a bad oily build up on my intercooler and back of engine bay just after i broke her in. i wiped the oil off and it got worse.

took it to the dealership and turned out to be a hairline crack in the casting of the block. got a new block under warranty. hopefully yours doesn't have the same problem.

check all your oil lines too.
