A few ?'s ECU....CATS....Turbo vf30 or 34
Hi
I am about to make a few major changes to my 02WRX. I need a little help. If
I buy an all ready tuned ecu USED will my mileage be controled from that ecu. eg I have 20k he has 40k. Will mine change to 40k? Next is which cat to eliminate. Mid pipe or Down pipe. I was planning on getting a Turbo back with high flow cat.
Final question is regaurding Turbos. Will I see a big improvement going from a VF30 to a VF34.
Thanks for any help I am having a hard time pulling the trigger on these mods

The mileage is stored in your gauge cluster.
If you are going to run someone else's ECU, you need to run that person's EXACT mod setup. No different intakes or downpipes in particular. If he had cats, you need cats and vice versa. The best bet is to have whoever tuned his ecu retune it for your car.

the advantage of getting an all ready tuned ECU is that , IIRC, it all ready has the the licensing for Ecutek software. So to get it retuned for your setup would cost far less than getting an original Ecutek license.
But you should get a used UTEC anyway and not have to deal with this silliness
Don't waste your time with a vf30. Not a bad turbo, just that the 34 has slightly better features and usually costs less because it is what the subaru shops buy in bulk.

Turbo back with a high flow cat NOT in the dp is what you need. From what I've read and hear the vf34 should be the better turbo and the faster spooling turbo due to it's newer design and ball bearing center section. That ecu will only remotely work right if you have the same mods as the guy you bought it from and most important have the same size injectors. If he was running sti pinks which flow 565cc and you run injectors that put out 850cc it won't even run close to right or driveable. You really have the ecu reflashed for your car.

Your cats are in the up pipe (pre cat) and two in the downpipe
I think you would have to splice some wires to run a o2 sensor to the midpipe as you'd prolly need long wires. If you remove the cat the o2 sensor will say cat inefficiency but there are electronic fixes for that easily spliced in and installed.
I'd also like to point out your in the glass tranny era which means too much power and your bound to strip gears even with normal driving. Perhaps its time to look at a 6mt tranny from an sti.

Torque limit: maybe 350-375
Clutch drop limit: ZERO
If you want to beat on your car and drive it hard, you need to do some tranny work. RA gears at a minimum, 6MT to be certain it will never fail.

Yeah, the better you are at driving, the more power the transmission can handle.
The S-Squared shop project car has a Garrett GT28RS turbo on a stock WRX transmission, but Nate knows how to drive. If I got behind the wheel, I'd toast it within 10 laps.

Thanks for the info guys, I settled on a VF30 price was too good to pass!
Sti Pinks again great price and a Walbro pump. Interms of Exhaust I am going with a Helix set up with a cat in dp. I need one cat or else. They are pretty strict up here! With my ECU tuned what type of power can I expect?
Thanks
