Experiences with Digimoto OBDII reader?

http://www.digimoto.com/

Saw that advertised above. I've been in the market for a cheap scantool, and this looks great for $99.

Has the ability to real-time graph most sensors, read and clear DTC's, has a road dyno feature, etc.

Supposedly will have PDA software soon, as a free update.

Any opinions, etc? Seems like DeltaDash for 1/3 the price.

How does it seem like delta dash for 1/3 the price?? It doesn't do 1/2 the stuff that delta dash does. I'm gonna go look for all the features DD has i have used it personally and love all the stuff that it can monitor.

Hmmm Maybe i was all excited or something last time i used the Delta Dash. But it does look like they do almost exactly the same thing. Here is what the DD can do---> http://www.rallyperformance.com/EcuOEMdata.htm

Delta Dash can read and log all of the sensors and parameters from the ECU. A generic OBDII scanner cannot, it is limited to a much smaller set of data items.

A piggy-back works by modifying the sensor inputs to the ECU so the data from the diagnostic port will show what the ECU is seeing, which may not be the actual sensor reading. A reflash only changes the fuel and timing maps but doesn't affect sensor data, so what is read will still be accurate.

Here's my reason for dismissing Digimoto's OBDII scantool:

Not to thread-jack, but do the same limitations you are slamming the Digimoto ODB tool for also effect a tool like the PSI3 (a device which seems much closer to the Delta Dash than the Digimoto)... And do any of the data collectors work after an ECU reflash?

Nobody slammed the product, just the company. And data collectors work fine with reflashes, it's piggyback ECUs that affect sensor readings.

The second is the official web site, which I find very "noisy" and annoying in design, as well as lacking in information. I need to talk to someone who's actually had one of these in the car for a while to figure out if I am going to get my full $600.00 out of it, but it is a very tempting upgrade. If only it had some type of output to a PC (FLASH memory card perhaps?) so I could log data over time...

Thanks Wingless (for the record, so am I!) for the link. I'll contact him over e-mail and see what he thinks.

The only thing that gives me pause is the size of that display - 2 row, 24-character black-and-white LCD display is pretty much stone age; a lot of $200 stereos have color LCDs and twice the resolution. Maybe I will hold out and see if they upgrade the screen size...

While the size and display mode of the PSI3 is somewhat lacking, the information available for viewing is excellent. You're basically getting 16 gauges in one compact unit. I've had mine for over a year and I'm very pleased with it. It has helped me numerous times when diagnosing knock correction/timing issues.

As was said earlier, piggyback ECU's will affect the readings on the PSI3. With my Xede (now gone) the boost, timing, and fueling information the PSI3 was reporting was bogus.

Feel free to email me with any specific questions.
