Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

engine "shaking"

I have a 2004 WRX with a few bolt ons(stock turbo). I was crusing around my friends neighborhood and hit a pretty nasty pothole at about 15 miles per hour. about 5 minutes after that i pull up to a red light and i can feel the car start to shake. It's reasonably noticeable at idle, after about 2000rpm it seems to go away. I popped the hood and you can see the motor shaking in the engine bay and definately feel it in the shifter. I'm not really sure what would cause it to act like this and was curious to see if anyone had any suggestions.

our motors like to wobble, its in the nature of the pistons shooting in opposite directions.. unless you went over that pothole hard enough that you damaged or broke a mount (engine or tranny)

maybe the Weapon*R Engine Torque Dampener can't help keep the engine from shaking a bit.

ya, i understand they like to rattle a little bit. I've owned the car for nearly 3 years now. This is a SHAKE. You can actually feel the car wobble and the shift **** is moving in place. I hear a very slight ticking sound, but i think that might be the FMIC piping tapping onto the raditor fan bracket(i had to cut it make the pipe fit..and it's a pretty tight fit). Would the motor shaking be a sign of internal damage? I just get pretty paranoid when things aren't going right.

Sounds like it's time to replace your motor mounts. I can't think of anything else that would cause exactly what you described.

well it was actually a mis-fire in cylinder # 3.

the pot-hole jostled the plug wire clip out of the coil pack by just a little bit. So upon first inspection it looked like it was in securely but after i took it off and re-inserted it everything smoothed out.

thanks everyone.

I assumed the car was running fine and the engine was just twisting on the mounts. I don't see how a misfire on a 4 cylinder wasn't noticible after 2K rpms?

Glad everything is fine now
