Well its up to you, with the ej22 you'll have to replace the pistons to raise the comp ratio back to 8.0:1 thats if you use the wrx heads and obviously its a really strong block....where the 2.5 sti is a direct bolt on with increased comp ratio which if you are running the vf22 should help out i have the sti 2.5 with 03 heads, vf30 and i love it.......well about the 400hp mark you'd probably be better of with the ej22 but i've seen the 2.5 putting out 370whp on pump gas.

Getting a JDM motor is also an alternative. Spec C engines are very very nice. Of course, depends on what you are doing, but if you are not craving more cc's and want a higher redline, go with the JDM Spec C motors.
I have both. I have Axis uber built EJ22T (2.4L) and 2.0L JDM Spec C.

I like the
high revs personally. Less shifting = faster times. I don't drag (yet). But I am tempted by the latest offerings of Crawford. Seems I'll be selling my firstborn to afford a real motor.

The semi-closed deck motors have proven to be very good for the average and into the above average. But the closed deck is still the choice for the person that wants it all

Well still, the crawford/i-speed 2.6L that's sitting in the X-Wing is only about 4500 dollars right plus another couple grand for ported heads, cams, and valvetrain? I mean, compared to a JDM STI crate engine that would cost the same.... i dunno man somehow the 2.6L sounds like a better bang for the buck
