There shouldn't be any real need to if you just replaced the muffler. But in case you do want to, it's easy: just unplug the negative terminal on your car battery for a few seconds, then fire your baby back up (you know it's been reset when your radio station settings disappear).

yeah, your susposed to let the system drain by pumping the brake pedal a few times to discharge the system so the ECU looses all power and resets its self. you dont really need to do it if you just changed the muffler. when you get some intercooler hoses or an up pipe it would be a good idea to reset it.
BTW, dont listen to Choku Dori about the reset procedure, hes a n00b. (J/K! love ya man)

there are a few threads that completley describe the process. they range form just disconecting the battery to a series of steps when you reconnect it. some say you that when you re connect the batter you have to start the engine but do not press the gas pedal. let the car idle and warm up until the fan turns on. right after the fan starts turn the car off. then it is fully reset.

i just leave my dome light on due to my driver's door being opened. that's plenty of current draw to deplete stored electrical charge in the system while i remove the battery terminal.
it's always safer to disconnect the negative terminal, since if you brush another part of the engine/chassis with the wrench you won't get a dangerous short.

Disconnect the negetive terminal and then press the brake for about 5 seconds. It will delete all preset radio stations and the milage thingy(forget whats its called-you push the button and it gets added tot he total milage)....theres absolutely no need to do it for just a muffler.

It's not worth the risk and hassle of CEL, and reteaching the ECU fresh after a reset is more effective using either the Shiv technique or the aggressive driving technique, than by waiting for it to adjust on its own (possibly not as effectively)
