does stock turbo make spooling noise??

My 04 WRX only has about 1700 miles on it and i have recently heard a noise as i accelerate. Nothing major just a slight sucking or leaking sound. I am wondering if this was always there or if i have a leak somewhere in the turbo or exhaust. It sounds like a small whistle, almost like a intake would sound or a leak would sound. I can't tell if it is a sucking in sound or a escaping air sound. Anyone know what im talking about?

Thanks for any help you might give.

with moderate acceleration a turbo whistle can be heard. If you get on it hard, the engine and exhaust block out the whistle and the entire car roars.

If you remove the resonator (a useless piece of crap inserted to keep nervous people from freaking out) you will hear the turbo spool and get some nice intake growly sounds.

my ej20 whistles like a banchee. Of coarse up-down and K&N CAI makes it quite a bit louder. Don't fret and spool on!

yes it is the turbo spooling, some people say they cannot hear it when the car is still brand spankin new, but as time goes on, they eventually hear it....

here is the link for removing your resonator, http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...p?threadid=113
in addition to the spooling sound coming from your turbo, you will also be able to hear the stock blow off valve. kinda cool.

question about 04...i have one tooo btw...

anyhow...i noticed on my 04 w/ 2000 miles...my clutch is alot lighter than the 02-03's...i've noticed this since i bought the car w/ 0 miles...any ideas...is it just that subaru's made the 04's clutch little softer than the older ones???

definatly agree with you on the clutch thing. I drove an 04 and the clutch was alot softer and felt almost like my cousins jetta, really easy to drive. My 03 clutch takeup seems alot sooner making gas more crucial to being smooth. overall, it seems tougher to drive but i'm use to it.

Thanks for the replay Scoobystas!

im glad that im not the only one noticing this with the '04's!! Unless both of our cars are wrecked...the only reason why i say this is because my bro has an 02 and his clutch feels like its an aftermarket compared to mine...It's a lot harder to drive and smoothness is definitely rougher...

<dont know if htis is the same as the resonator mod>

ALso, if you remove a bunch of the sound deadening stuff around the uppipe and downpipe you can hear it very very well
