not necessarily, ur in box filter is oil, which is not good for ur maf sensor, the stock sti filter is a better filter than the K&N one..

I havent checked if this was posted previously; but has there been any company to remake our stock air boxes (snorkle and all) into something less heat resistant than what we have? If the intake itself is adequate enough, why have heat soaking plastic when you could have some sort of less-heat-resistant metal?

Or maybe im wrong on the heat soaking plastic. Just an idea

My take on this is forget about getting an Intake. Your stock intake could handle up to 300 HP. All I've done to my subee is put an intake delete in there. Makes the air flow a little better, makes your car sound a little better, and increases the sound from your stock BPV. Plus, an after-market intake only gives you MAYBE like 2 or 3 HP. Not 15 like the ones you find in Kragens. In my opinion, intakes are usually for looks.

However, if you plan on going past 300 HP, then ignore everything I just explained.

ok this may have already been brought up but i dont have the time to look through 17 pages of comments, anywho i had heard that with a turbo it heats everything up so much that having a cold air intake has very little effect, i have no knowledge on the subject other than second hand so if anyone can answer as to whether or not that argument has any merit i would appreciate the input (sorry for the minor thread jack, but it is relevant)

I am going to get a CAI one day for two reason's, 1st it makes the car sounds so much better over stock intake, and 2nd it looks so much better then stock. Twickle twickle baby! But as of right now I have a drop in K&N that works just fine.

A real cold air intake does have benefits, like helping the IC and oil system keep the turbo cool, however its only a cold air intake when its done right! you have to have a box for the filter that separates it from the engine air with a hole in the hood to take in actual cold air, or a whole in the bumper or headlight for same purpose. like many drag racers do. NOT in the wheel well (right above the hot Aphalt!) NOT behind/in front of the radiator (where the coolant has already transferred the engine heat, or is robbing flow from the radiator)

Wink

and the same goes for a K&N, they are amazing filters that last forever, and DO NOT RUIN YOUR MAF, when used correctly, however the procedure to use it right is ridiculous, after you clean it and oil it (using the right amount not the whole bottle DUH!) you have to wait 24 hours, but who has the time to just not drive for 24 hours? not me! so buy 2! or just grab a cheap-o ricer filter to hold you over for a day.
