COBB Stage 1 Power Package (260 HP)
http://cobbtuning.com/wrx/powerpackage1.html
Anyone have this? I currently have a 2002 sedan (had it since 5/1), but have just signed papers to get a 2004. Was supposed to get it this week but apparently no one in the area has a black wagon to swap w/the dealer I signed with so I'll be waiting 2 weeks.
I notice from cobb's page (that link up there) that the stage1 says it's for the 2002-2003.
Questions:
If you have done this, how noticeable was the difference and did your CEL go on because of it?
Is there an alternative for the 2004?
P.S. It was SO hard not to get the STi (there was one on the lot, not spoken for). I had to think about my newly acquired cargo . . . my son

Greydune....do you have a stock exhaust system with the Stage 1 or do you have mods?
I guess what I'm asking is does the Stage 1 reflash make a noticable difference in power with a stock exhaust or should I at least go Cat back before reflashing?
Is the power of Stage 1 smooth and not jittery? Does there seem to be a bit more 1st gear lag (I've heard this as well about reflashes from any company)...
Thanks

Cobb Tuning AccessECU
The Stage One AccessECU is the single most bang you can get for your buck... period. There is not a single item/s you can get for $400 bucks that will make more power and/or torque. The differerence is absolutely and totally noticable and is intoxicating. I have never noticed anything different in 1st other than the fact that it sure doesn't last very long any more.
Yes the power of the Stage one is smooth, so smooth in fact that I now think a stock WRX feels "jittery"...
I spoken with Trey at Cobb on more than one occasion, and the stage one map is suprising flexible. It works extremly well with other mods such as up-pipes, mufflers (like the prodrive unit I will be installing on my WRX here in a bout an hour ), I/C hoses. etc. Oh and I'm BONE stock, but that will last for another hour or so...
Put your worrries to bed, save up $420 bucks and call Cobb...

Cool...thanks for the input...will let the stock exhaust system rot off the car for another winter and go with the ECU upgrade then...
Who knows maybe corrosion holes will free up my exhaust a bit!
BTW let me know what you think of the Prodrive muffler once you get it on...especially sound quality...is it really 45 lbs?!! I want an exhaust that isn't loud but sounds nice, similar to a miata where you can tell the revs exactly by its sound without blowing everyone else off the road...i.e. does the prodrive sound like that or is just as quiet as stock inside...
Thanks

Hey I got a couple of questions that go along with this.
1. How much does the flashing hurt the gas consumption? I know that with most any mod that increases the power you are going to lose a little bit on the milage, but any estimate as to what it goes from/to?
2. Am I reading that site correctly? One price, but 9 different options for flashing the ECU? I know it's for different variations on the car, but the 93 Octane Stage 1 and Stage 2 for a bone stock WRX (for example) are showing a large difference in output. If they are the same price, why would you want to chose Stage 1 over Stage 2?
Just trying to clear my head so that I can make the right decision here, thanx.

Stage 1 is for stock (or close to it) exhaust... Stage 2 is for a full turbo-back system... So in the grander scheme of things Stage 1 is $420 and Stage 2 is $420 + the cost of a turbo-back exhaust system... Make sense?
