Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Changed my spark plugs, noticed something interesting.

looks to me like you were running lean at some point in time.. from the grey colour of the electrodes. Were these the original plugs on the car?

the aem intakes are notorious for making the wrx run lean, and dangerously lean in some cases, which might explain the condition of the plugs

They look ok. Plugs take a beating with the turbo. I looked at mine today (48k miles) and they look just like that, and my engine is and has always been all stock. I was going to install iridiums and I freaking broke one because the rubber thing is missing from my socket. WHat a pita.

Are you guys changing your plugs by yourself? I would like to but I am not sure how easy or hard it is to do. I know they are not right there for you to get at so what is the procedure? Anyone have a link with pics?

The car is bone stock now, when i got it, it had an aem cai and catback which i took off once i got the car and replaced with all stock goodies. Is this something i should worry about?
If the pics dont show up let me know.

Here is a link to a search that shows you how to read your spark plugs http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=rea...b-t&fl=0&x=wrt.

Well, from what I can see from the photo (can't zoom in), mine look about the same. The reason for the platinum is because it isn't supposed to eat away like the other metal parts.

Either way, I'd just change them and check 'em out in another 15k-30K miles and see how they look.

I think the manual tells you to change them every 30k but my car has an upipe, full TBE and a stage 2 reflash and I use the coppers instead of the platinum's so I change them every spring.

I just looked at my manual and you are correct. I didnt read the manual close enough and I was looking at cars that dont have a 3.0L or turbo.

Thanks for the clarification.
