Can you really add STi injectors with no other fuel mods?
Hello,
My friend has a modified WRX with VF22, Blitz LM FMIC, full exhaust ect and he's added the STi 565cc "pink" injectors and a Walbro 255 fuel pump but has added nothing to control these larger injectors. What will be the effect of this? He should be running quit rich right? And what should his EGT's be at while running about 15psi if everything is tuned correctly? And finally, how much boost can you run on stock injectors with out any fuel management, I'm afraid he may be over boosting already unless these bigger injectors are accidently squirting out enough fuel to somehow keep him from running lean and blowing at the boost he is running.
Sorry about all the questions, just trying to learn and help a friend in need.
thanks,
allen

I'm surprised he can even idle..........
You'll need fuel injection controller or some type of programmable ECU to manipulate the injector pulse width or airflow signals.
I assume if he can even drive the thing he should have "no problem" with the EGT being too high. He might even have fuel droplets flying out of his tail pipe.

Thanks for the reply.
It actually runs pretty darn good and doesn't blow black smoke or cough/sputter, he does report that it will backfire some occasionally but didn't on my 15 minute test drive. It does have a bit of a rough idle but nothing like what you might expect. Can anyone else chime in on this?
thanks,
allen

I doubt the car is running all that rich under boost. I bet it's faster, but it's raw unrefined power. It probably doesn't idle well, but I wouldn't worry about it under boost. The extra fuel you are getting from the injectors is balancing the extra airflow from the larger turbo. Without boost though, it is definitely running rich. Get some management and you'll see a lot more power with better response, less lag, and less hesitation.

BAN SUVS,
Thanks for the input, you make some good sense. My question now is, should we just put the stock injectors back in and leave well enough alone (he was after all happy with the power when he first bought it with the stock injectors) or should we be looking at an S-AFC? I don't want to get in over my head with some over complicated fuel management as I don't really have the time to walk him through some long drawn out venture into upgraded fuel systems. Will the fairly simple AFC be the best solution to trim the fuel back down while tuning "by the seat of our pants"?
thanks,
allen

i'd say, have him pick up a WBO2 and tune by the numbers.
