Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Break-in (does it really need to go 1000 miles?)

I'd really wait till 1000 miles before you do any racing. But it's your car, do whatever you want to it.

As for changing oil, I would change the oil once u reach 500 miles.

Be patient and wait the 1000 miles. Would you rather wait now or have things break later? I know it sucks, but wait it out. Just go do a lot of highway driving and rack up the miles.

the car will get FASTER on the way up to about 10,000 miles.. maybe even more (some say 15k). things are tight and not producing peak power yet. give it time.

I'd wait. I heard that if you don't do a proper break-in, you can prevent your pistion rings from sealing properly, and you get blow-by in the end. Not worth it IMO.

I didn't properly break in my car. And now I have blow-by. Be patient, but it is your car.

I would not drag race with 500 miles. Change the oil at 1K. Don't baby it but don't beat on it. Don't forget, you are also breaking in other parts since the car is new.

Patience is one of the greatest virtues. Wait for the 1000 mile mark and you shall surely be blessed by your Impreza.

This is a thread that will explain what blow-by is, and how a catch-can can alleviate it

Making a sticky about oil catch cans is probably a good idea. They seem to be the new "gotta-have" mod. Lots of questions in lots of different threads.

BTW: For those who read my inaccurate description of blow-by earlier, forgive me.
