Boost spike with new downpipe?

I just installed at B&B downpipe w/ cat and while road testing it, my boost gauge was reading a little higher than normal. Is that normal? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

If you're running stock engine management, its normal to see minor boost spikes after you modify the exhaust... especially the downpipe.

Try just reseting the ECU and see what happens. If not releasing some of the tension on the wategate arm(1/2 turn out) might help.

No need to port the wastegate on a stock WRX turbo... boost is plenty controllable with a propper tune.

Resetting the ECU seems to have done the trick. Thanks for those who responded with actual suggestions.

PS. please don't post ***** with search ideas. I did look on search and found nothing that fits my exact problem. Thanks
